Tax-Smart Ways To Give

STOCKS, SECURITIES, AND MUTUAL FUNDS

Many people choose to give stocks, securities, or mutual funds instead of gifts of cash to Mile Hi Church. Giving appreciated assets like these can help you avoid paying capital gains taxes and can give you an income tax deduction for the full value of the gift if you’ve had the assets for more than one year.

By giving these appreciated assets to Mile Hi Church now, you will be able to experience the impact of your generosity and enjoy the associated tax benefits. Or add the “Mile Hi Church Foundation” as the beneficiary designation for these assets, and upon your transition, you may avoid potential estate and inheritance taxes.

Benefits

  • Gifts of assets like these can often save you far more on taxes than gifts of cash
  • Avoid capital gains taxes
  • Receive an income tax deduction for the value of the assets (if you’ve had them for more than a year)
  • Make an immediate impact on our mission

How It Works

  1. Transfer appreciated securities directly to us and avoid capital gains taxes
  2. You receive a tax receipt for the value of the assets
  3. The securities are then sold, and the funds are put directly to use for the greatest impact at Mile Hi Church

To transfer stocks, securities, and mutual funds, your broker will need the following information:
Mile Hi Church of Religious Science
Schwab Account #6289-2157
Tax ID# 84-0521211
DTC # 0164

To add the Mile Hi Church Foundation as a beneficiary designation for these assets, please use the Foundation’s Tax ID# 84-0919606. By making this simple beneficiary designation, you are eligible for membership in our beloved Nautilus Society.

If you choose to support Mile Hi Church with a gift of stock, securities, or mutual funds, please contact us to let us know so we can ensure that you are properly acknowledged and that your gift gets put to use as you intend. For questions, contact Carma Lytle at clytle@milehichurch.org.

QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTIONS FROM YOUR IRA

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-efficient way for individuals aged 70½ or older to make gifts directly from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). QCDs can count towards satisfying an individual’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, which is the minimum amount an individual must withdraw from their IRA each year once they reach age 73.

Who It’s For

  • Individuals 70½ or older
  • Those who have a traditional IRA, not a Roth IRA
  • Those who want to make a charitable gift that counts toward their RMD
  • Those who want to reduce their taxable income

Benefits

  • Reduce taxable income
  • Counts towards your Required Minimum Distribution for the year
  • Make an immediate impact on our mission

How It Works

  1. Instruct your IRA custodian to distribute up to $105,000 annually directly to one or more eligible charities like Mile Hi Church
  2. The QCD counts towards your Required Minimum Distribution
  3. The QCD is not included in your taxable income, which can reduce your overall tax liability. Because the distribution comes directly from your pre-tax IRA, you will not receive a charitable income tax deduction for the QCD

If you wish to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution, contact your IRA custodian to get started and provide them with our name:
Mile Hi Church of Religious Science
Tax ID# 84-0521211

If you choose to support Mile Hi Church with a gift from your IRA, please contact us to let us know so we can ensure that you are properly acknowledged and that your gift gets put to use as you intend.

DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS

A donor-advised fund (DAF) allows individuals to make charitable contributions and receive an immediate tax deduction. The funds are managed by a DAF custodian, and the donor can recommend grants to their preferred nonprofit organizations like Mile Hi Church. Donors can contribute to the DAF over time and recommend grants to charities at their discretion, providing flexibility in their giving strategy.

Benefits

  • Retain the flexibility to make grant recommendations over time
  • Receive an immediate tax deduction when contributing to your fund
  • Make an immediate impact on our mission

How It Works

Log in to your donor-advised fund account or contact your fund administrator to submit a grant request to:
Mile Hi Church of Religious Science
Tax ID#: 84-0521211

If you choose to support Mile Hi Church through your donor-advised fund, please contact us to let us know so we can ensure that you are properly acknowledged and that your grant gets put to use as you intend.
